The National Internet Project has started operating the service to 500 homes in the Zayouna area in the capital, Baghdad, while the service, which is characterized by high speed, is expected to be delivered to 30 areas in Iraq by the end of this year.

Project spokesman Mustafa Saadoun said in an interview with Al-Sabah newspaper, which was followed by Al-Iktissad News, that “actual operation began in the Zayouna area, with the service reaching about 500 homes at least,” indicating that “there is a positive impression about the internet service that reaches citizens. Through the project, which gives an impetus to provide more and better service during the next phase for the areas that will be included in it.

He added that "this service was supposed to reach homes two years ago, but there are some obstacles that have delayed that," noting that "the high-speed Internet will reach 30 regions in Iraq by the end of this year."

Saadoun confirmed that the project’s plan is to reach 800,000 homes next June, then to one million and 900 thousand homes, and two million and 800 thousand homes in 2023, and to reach 4 million homes in Iraq.

He continued that “there are four monthly packages to subscribe to this service, the first. At a speed of 15 megabytes at a price of 35,000 dinars, and 40 megabytes at a price of 45,000 dinars, and 75 megabytes at a price of 65,000 dinars, and 150 megabytes at a price of 100,000 dinars, "noting that the latter's application is for the first time in the Middle East, and that recharge cards do not include sales tax and will be available in Centers approved by the project.

He added that "the subscription is through the sales centers of the national project for the Internet or contacting the service center of the project’s subscribers, where a technical team will install and connect the optical cable and the broadcasting device within 48 hours from the date of receiving the request."

Saadoun indicated that "the national project has contributed a large percentage to curbing smuggling, and it is not related to the telecommunications and Internet sectors only, but to the educational, health and even security sectors by providing an environment, capacities and real internet networks for the subject of surveillance cameras, and all that is needed by the competent institutions to install security in Baghdad and the provinces."
