Minister of Agriculture: Five traders control the fate of Iraq

The Minister of Agriculture, Saleh Al-Hassani, revealed that five merchants control the fate of Iraq regarding import operations and setting prices, stressing that the ministry faced pressures throughout the year regarding the decision to prevent import.

Al-Hassani said in a televised interview followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "four to five merchants are the ones who control the fate of Iraq and carry out import operations and fixing prices."

Al-Hassani added, "These merchants have fought against us regarding the decision to ban imports," stressing that they "left nothing they did not do with us on import issues."

He continued: "I told them it is not reasonable to open the import to you at the expense of a country as a whole because the public interest is above everything," noting that "the ministry was facing pressure throughout the year."
