Economic Prospects: Iraq is on the verge of a disaster in energy

The parliamentary committee on economy and investment called on Sunday for the government to speed up the movement in order to obtain the exception of Iraq in the import of gas from Iran, pointing out that the non-import of gas and electricity from Iran will cause a service disaster, unless the alternative is found.

 "Iraq depends heavily on the import of electric power coming from Iran, as well as the gas used for gas stations," said Nada Shaker Jodat, a member of the committee.

 "The end of the deal after only 8 days with Iran will cause a service disaster, especially as temperatures rise during the summer," she said.

 "The Iraqi situation will not tolerate further escalation in light of a security, economic and political crisis and may turn into a popular one," Jawdat said.
