The leader of the Alliance for Reform and Reconstruction, Athil Nujaifi, said on Monday that the corruption of selling and smuggling the currency is one of the most dangerous types of corruption in Iraq.
Al-Nujaifi told Asharq Al-Awsat that "this corruption is supported by infiltrators in the Iraqi state who protect these corrupters and have designed their situation for more than 10 years to be in these positions and to smuggle the currency and protect the corrupt. They follow political bodies and implement a special agenda. Much of this smuggled currency goes to Iran. "
"Millions of dollars are being smuggled daily from inside Iraq. Most of them went to Iran or financed Iran's wars in the region, whether in Syria, Lebanon or Yemen," he said.
Judges specializing in money-laundering cases previously disclosed that millions of dollars had already been smuggled out of Iraq by traders, cashiers, delusions and money-transfer companies.
In a statement published by the Mashreq Center for Studies and Information in London, Iyad Mohsen Damad, a judge of the investigation of money laundering, said that traders provide documents, forged documents, lists and fake permits through private banks to get the dollar and then transfer it out of Iraq.
For his part, the judge of the misdemeanors of integrity and money laundering Rady Fartousi of not to "audit the authorities responsible for permits and invoices provided by banks and customers before participating in the auction of foreign currency."
