Allawi: The area of cultivated land in Iraq fell by 75%

revealed Vice President Iyad Allawi , on Friday, a decline of cultivated land area in Iraq to 75%, and while stressing that the funds for agricultural initiatives go to the pockets of corrupt, warning of the consequences of the deterioration of agriculture on food security for citizens and the sovereignty of the Iraqi decision.
Allawi said in a statement received by Alsumaria News, a copy of it, "We regret the terrible decline in the area of cultivated land, which fell from 48 million acres to 12 million only," expressing his fear of "the decline of the remaining areas and increase desertification due to lack of water resources and unfair uses and the absence of plans to confront These situations. "
Allawi added that "the funds of agricultural initiatives go to pockets of spoilers, and warn of the repercussions of the deterioration of agriculture on the food security of the citizen and the sovereignty of the Iraqi decision," referring to "the escalation of rural migration and the loss of thousands of jobs."
"The absence of the economic vision of the governments that followed my ministry led to the deterioration of the agricultural situation and the overall economic situation, forcing Iraq in the midst of its financial crisis to import more than 75% of its food needs and 91% of other commodities."
It is noteworthy that Iraq depends on the import of agricultural and animal products to neighboring countries, where the volume of imports after 2003.
