Kevin, are you a banking professional, an economist?  What gives you the authority to make such statements?  Clearly, if the CBI issues it, their is a need whatever that may be.  Unless you are an expert with credentials to support your comments on how central banks defend their banking systems you are no better than any guru.

No expert, I just study the news and what the experts say about it, weigh both sides, there are almost always at least two sides, and draw my own conclusions. That said, this is a pretty simple conclusion really, the only reason they would need them would be continuing serious inflation leading to a shortage of cash and a need for higher denominated cash. When inflation is controlled there is no longer any need for large denominated notes, for example the $500 and $1000 notes in the US. Based on their statement that they are not needed now, the logical conclusion is that inflation is under control.

Yes, at one time such notes did serve a secondary purpose in making large interbank transfers easier, but they are no longer needed for that
