Saudi Arabia is trying to re-offer an investment project that Iraq had previously rejected

On Friday, the president of the Saudi Excellence Company, Abdullah Al-Melehi, revealed a Saudi intention to re-offer an investment project in the Western Desert that had previously been rejected by the Iraqi government for reasons related to a threat to groundwater.

Al-Melehi said in a statement reported by the Saudi newspaper, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, which was reviewed by the information, that “There are investments that Saudi companies will soon launch in Iraq in the fields of manufacturing industries, such as industry, agriculture, and multiple projects, while Saudi investment companies specializing in raising livestock and cows have been offered.

The Iraqi government has the idea of investing 4 million dunums in the Western Desert between Anbar Governorate, through the cities of Karbala and Najaf, to the Samawah Desert, with a contract extending for more than 50 years to cultivate agricultural crops and raise cows.

He added that "among the investments that will be implemented by the Emirati and Saudi companies is the production of some internal industries in Iraq , as joint factories between Iraq and these two countries will be ... also one of the most important investment projects is the interest in electric power projects from Saudi Arabia and the United States."

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi government had previously announced its rejection of the Saudi investment project, as it threatens the groundwater in Iraq and exposes it to the risk of loss.
