During its (18) meeting ... the National Committee for Population Policies of the Ministry of Planning is looking to increase the participation of the private sector and civil society in its work
The National Population Policy Committee held its eighteenth meeting today, Monday, under the chairmanship of the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, who chaired it on behalf of the Minister of Planning Dr. Khaled Battal Al-Najm and in the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Health, Immigration, Displacement and Finance, as well as representatives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers / Department Empowering women and the High Commission for Coordination between Governorates, as well as a representative of civil society associations and organizations in addition to the Director General of the Department of Human Development in the Ministry of Planning and the Director of the Executive Department for Population Policies in the Department of Human Development.
The Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, said that the committee discussed the resumption of its activities and the identification of the participants from the relevant ministries and agencies, adding that there is a great trend for civil society organizations to participate in a more effective way in this committee, indicating that the meeting included discussion of several topics, especially identifying paths and a work agenda. For the nineteenth meeting that will be held soon to review a number of national documents, review Iraq's commitments at the Nairobi summit and what has been achieved and what has not been achieved, as well as setting up a framework responsive to the next phase regarding the economic situation and the situation of all population groups
For her part, Director General of the Department of Human Development in the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Maha Abdel-Karim Al-Rawi said: The meeting included discussion of several topics, the most important of which was the formation of the committee to include representatives from the private sector and greater participation of civil society organizations for their active role in preparing population policies and legal rights for the population in the areas of reproductive health As well as organizations of people with disabilities.
