Iraq joined the Board of Governors at the World Bank

Baghdad, October 9 (Petra) - Iraq announced today, Friday, that it has joined the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Iraq’s formal accession to the bank’s membership will allow it to benefit from global banking expertise to develop the banking sector, obtain technical support, and assistance that will prepare the appropriate ground for investment.

Iraq expressed its hope that this step will be an introduction to joint action aimed at strengthening the private sector in Iraq to be able to compete and contribute to supporting sustainable development in the country.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said, that this achievement came with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the approval of the members of the Board of Governors of the Bank to join Iraq to the Council during a voting process witnessed by the work of the annual meeting of the Council in London.
