THE ARAB MONETARY FUND ISSUES THE 2019 ARAB ECONOMIC REPORT
2020-01-12
In the context of the efforts made by the Arab Monetary Fund in cooperation with a number of joint Arab action institutions to support decision-makers in the Arab countries, the Fund issued the "Consolidated Arab Economic Report for 2019" in its summary Arabic and English versions.
The consolidated Arab economic report is considered a model for fruitful cooperation between joint Arab labor institutions, in which the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the Arab Monetary Fund and the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) participate in its preparation. In addition, since the beginning of the report's release, the Arab Monetary Fund has been responsible for editing and issuing it.
The institutions participating in preparing the report are keen to accurately reflect the conditions of Arab economies, whether in terms of available data and information, or in terms of the methodology for preparing and developing them, as those involved in preparing the report rely on data and information drawn from official national reliable sources, through a comprehensive questionnaire dedicated to this. Purpose is to be satisfied by the concerned authorities of the member countries.
In terms of methodology, the participating institutions are keen to include in the chapters of the report an analysis of economic developments in Arab countries using the main indicators, and the classification of Arab countries according to the topics under study to facilitate the process of comparative analysis. To this end, data related to economic developments in Arab countries are calculated in US dollars according to the national currency exchange rates based on the data provided by the countries for the purposes of the report.
The consolidated Arab economic report for 2019 covers a thorough analysis of the economic developments witnessed by the Arab countries during the year 2018. Its chapters address the developments of global economies and their implications for Arab economies, then an analysis of economic and social developments in the Arab countries, followed by an examination of the developments
In the sectors of agriculture, industry, oil and energy, developments in the level of public financial conditions, monetary and banking conditions and developments in Arab capital markets, then the report moves to developments in foreign trade and intra-trade, balance of payments, external public debt and exchange rates.
As usual every year, the chapter on the report focuses on a specialized topic that comes on top of the priorities of the Arab countries, where the chapter on the report axis for the year 2019 deals with the topic of “financial inclusion in the Arab countries: reality and prospects”, after which the report provides a presentation of Arab and international development aid. In the context of highlighting the importance of joint Arab economic cooperation, this year's report also deals with a chapter on Arab cooperation in the field of "services trade". The report concludes with a chapter reviewing the conditions of the Palestinian economy .
