ARAB MONETARY FUND ORGANIZES A COURSE ON "GOVERNMENT GOODS AND SERVICES AND THEIR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL IMPACT" ABU DHABI - UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

The Training Course on “Government Goods and Services and their Economic and Social Impact”, organized by the IMF Training and Capacity Building Institute in collaboration with the Economic Department, opened on Sunday, October 20, 2019.

The course is part of the Fund's ongoing efforts to strengthen Arab human capacity and to promote fruitful and constructive cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development in the United Arab Emirates.    

A number of cadres from the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development in the United Arab Emirates will participate. The course program includes presentations on the conceptual and practical framework to deepen the participants' understanding of issues related to the financing of the system of public goods and services, their economic evaluation and pricing methods, their efficient delivery, and their economic and social returns.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Al Humaidi, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Monetary Fund, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the participants, hoping that the session will contribute to enrich and deepen their knowledge of this important topic.

His Excellency touched on the vital role played by the system of public goods and services in achieving economic and social welfare. He also pointed out that upgrading the system of government services in terms of quality and efficiency in providing them and benefit from technological development to meet the growing demand for social welfare, and contribute to creating an enabling environment to attract investment and promote economic recovery and reduce unemployment.

In conclusion, His Excellency pointed out that the holding of this session enables access to the frameworks of the system of public goods and services, where the focus will be on the session on several axes, the most important of which are:

The `` Stabilization and Growth Policy '' course , organized by the Arab Monetary Fund's Training and Capacity Building Institute, opened this morning at the IMF's headquarters in Abu Dhabi from  22 to 24 October 2019.

The course aims to present the most important issues related to the policy of growth and stability in particular. The important role that fiscal policy plays in economic activity in general and in the Arab economies in particular, is partly due to the importance of the public sector in our Arab economies and to the nature of non-tax revenues, especially oil revenues, which flow into the state treasury and form an important part of its budget. . In this context, there is an urgent need to adopt prudent policies to deal with various conditions such as the development and activation of tax systems, and diversification of sources of income through the development of other productive sectors, especially in the Arab oil exporting countries. Also, rationalizing public spending and focusing on investment and capital spending, which will contribute to the development of the real economy of countries, and lead to the easing of inflationary pressures.
