A political source confirmed on Wednesday that Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi presented a graphic invitation to Sheikh Al-Azhar to visit Iraq, while the latter promised to meet the invitation.

The source added in a press statement that "Abdul Karim Hashem, the envoy of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to Egypt , handed over an invitation to Sheikh Al-Azhar Ahmed Tayeb to visit Iraq."

He continued: "During the meeting reviewed the positive developments between Iraq and Egypt and the role of the sheikh of Al-Azhar Central in the Arab and Islamic world," adding that "Tayeb welcomed the invitation and promised to meet at the earliest opportunity."

The head of the Reform and Reconstruction Coalition Ammar al-Hakim received on Wednesday at his office in Baghdad the Egyptian ambassador to Egypt, Alaa Moussa.

"The files that were present at the meeting are the bilateral relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them in all fields and the developments of the political situation in Iraq and the region," Hakim said in a statement to his office .

Hakim stressed "the importance that both Iraq and Egypt play a pivotal role in resolving differences and moistening the atmosphere to achieve stability in the region."

Al-Hakim also hailed the outcome of the Iraq-Egypt-Jordan tripartite summit held in Cairo in late March and the importance of investing in enhancing cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all fields.
