Providing we have not traded in currencies before the increase in the value of the dinar can be claimed as a capital gain in Canada, according to the tax consultant I went to.

Yes, I've heard the same. Apparently, if we have traded in currencies before, we would claim the increase in value of the dinar as 'income' - which is a much higher tax rate than 'capital gains'.... apparently (if we've traded in currencies before) the government can look at this as our 'job' or 'career' therefore monies earned would be considered our 'income' (income tax bracket) rather than a speculative investment (capital gains).
