BAGHDAD (Reuters)

- The majority of countries are making up complications to prevent Iraq from recovering its money abroad, Foreign Affairs Committee member Muthana Amin said on Tuesday.

"The Foreign Relations Committee has issued a set of legislation to recover Iraqi funds abroad, and we have a proposal to amend the law on that," Amin told Al-Ghad Press.

He added that "the Integrity Commission followed the file during the previous session and hosted all concerned in the Iraqi state in this file, but unfortunately when we listen to their reports, most of them do not provide anything."

He pointed out that "there are many obstacles in the working committees to recover foreign funds and lack of seriousness of the government to activate the file in addition to the lack of the necessary resources."

"There are other complications related to countries that do not want us to recover money," he added. "The excuses and the illegal complexities make up the money."

"Most countries do not want to cooperate to recover the money," he said. "Iraq does not have the ability to pressure countries to recoup their money, and the international community is not sufficiently active with Iraq."
