BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The 

Integrity Commission revealed on Wednesday that two absentees were sentenced to seven years in prison for the former Minister of Finance and Rafidain Bank for damaging the money by 40 billion dinars. 

In a statement received by al-Ghad Press, a copy of which was issued by Al-Ghad Press newspaper, the court issued a two-year prison sentence against the Minister of Finance and the Rafidain Bank, according to Article 340 of the Penal Code. 48 and 49 ".



"In 2012, the fugitives were convicted, by agreement and co-operation with other defendants, of their cases, with intentional damage of 40 billion dinars, with the money and interests of the party in which they were working, through violations committed by them." 

"They granted a loan to a fertilizer company, although there was no economic feasibility for the project for which the loan was granted and no real estate guarantees, despite the large amount of the loan. 

"The court, after examining the evidence obtained in the case, and the minutes of the investigative committee in the Office of the Inspector-General of the Ministry of Finance, which recommended the referral of the accused to the competent courts, as well as the presumption of escape from justice, which led the Court to the conviction conclusive and decisive that The evidence obtained is sufficient and convincing to convict them. "

In a related context, integrity stated that "the same court issued in late October two sentences of imprisonment for seven years against the owner of the fertilizer company that obtained the loan and its authorized director, in accordance with the provisions of Article 444 / XI of the Penal Code and the meaning of the materials 47 And 48 and 49 thereof, in order to cause them to cause damage to public funds. " 

"The decisions issued against the four defendants included the issuance of arrest and release orders, the carrying out of the fundamental search of the convicts, the support of the seizure of their movable and immovable property, and the right of the injured party to seek compensation before the civil courts.
