A delegation from the Iraqi parliament headed by Bashir al-Haddad, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, and the membership of MP Jamal Abdul-Zahza, Halifax, Canada, arrived to attend the meetings of the 64th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the NATO member states. 
The meetings are being held today exceptionally. 
The meetings will be dedicated to elected officials and senior leaders with delegations from Mediterranean countries and the Middle East to discuss and consult on the issue of crises and common challenges facing the region and around the world.

The Iraqi delegation headed by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Bashir al-Haddad on Friday attended a NATO meeting in the Canadian city of Halifax. 

"The Iraqi delegation headed by Al-Haddad is attending the first meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the NATO member states in the Canadian city of Halifax," a statement from Al-Haddad's office said.

Brussels / Halifax, 19 October 2018 - The Parliament of Canada will host the 64th Annual Session of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) from Friday, November 16 to Monday, November 19, 2018 in Halifax ( Canada). This session will bring together parliamentarians from 29 NATO member countries, as well as delegates from partner countries and observers, to discuss international security issues regarding the Alliance. 
The session will be held at the Halifax Convention Center, 1650 Argyle Street, Halifax, NS B3J 0E6, Canada. 

Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 Novemberwill be devoted to the meetings of the five committees of the NATO PA: politics, defense and security, science and technology, civil dimension of security, economy and security. 

On Monday, 19 November , Rasa Jukneviciene, NATO PA President, Rose Gottemoeller, NATO Deputy Secretary General, and other senior officials will address the plenary session. 

The session will be marked by parliamentary debates and the adoption of resolutions discussed in committees, concerning the Far North, hybrid war, burden-sharing, deterrence, the space sector, the South, defense innovation and Russian electoral interference.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly increases solidarity among Alliance members by bringing together parliamentarians from these countries. An essential link between NATO and the parliaments of its members, the Parliamentary Assembly works towards a parliamentary and public consensus in favor of the policies pursued by the Alliance. The NATO PA deals with social, cultural, political and economic issues, as well as military matters of paramount importance to NATO member countries. Parliamentarians meet to share information during regular sessions held in North America and Europe.

The annual session will coincide with the Halifax International Security Forum (HISF). These simultaneous events will reflect Canada's leading role and its involvement in international security.
