The Euphrates -

Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Erj Musjidi said that the work of Iranian consulates in Iraq will be economic in the next stage.

The comments were carried by Iran's official news agency IRNA in what appeared to be a move by Tehran to take care of US sanctions.

"Given the development of deep relations between Iran and Iraq, especially in terms of reconstruction and construction, the economic side must continue to move," Masjedi said during a meeting with his country's consul in Najaf, Karbala, Basra, Sulaymaniyah and Arbil.

He added that this means 'the participation of Iranian companies and their efforts to take advantage of the investment opportunities and cooperation available within the framework of joint cooperation with Iraq'.

"It is necessary to maintain the qualitative leap achieved in the exchange of goods produced between Iran and Iraq and bilateral cooperation in order to develop the trading system of the two countries and prepare the necessary ground in earnest to increase the export of production goods, services, energy and tourism."

US sanctions on Iran have been in force since August, restricting the country's use of the global financial system and extending sanctions to Iran's oil sector next month.
