The Euphrates -

An official in the province of Dhi Qar said that 2000 families were displaced from rural areas in the province due to drought during the summer of this year.

"The central government did not deal seriously with the water crisis that is affecting the province despite the scale of the environmental disaster, despite the dozens of appeals made by the local government to the Ministry of Water Resources and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers," the deputy governor of Dhi Qar Adel al-Dekhaili said in a statement.

"The cause of the displacement is due to the lack of rain, which caused the destruction of many livestock for these families, as well as the difficulty of access to drinking water."

He called for the formation of joint committees to dig wells to settle the largest number of families, and provide funds for water resources departments to be able to perform its work as required, without details.
