A political source said on Sunday that there is a political agreement between the political leaders to postpone the provincial elections scheduled for December 22 to April 2019.

The source said that 'a political agreement was between All the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish political forces during recent meetings and agreed to agree to postpone the provincial council elections to the month of April next year 2019 '.

The source said that 'the decision to postpone the holding of provincial elections corresponds to the text of the law article 46/1, and this means the validity of the elections in April of next year 2019 instead of the 22 of December next'.
The presence of a movement led by Shiite and Sunni political leaders has been revealed to postpone the provincial elections due to be held on December 22 because of political resentment over the fraud and manipulation of the votes that took place in the parliamentary elections on 12 May. There are Sunni Shiite concerns Of their recurrence in parliamentary elections more than in the parliamentary elections.

On 12 March 2018, the Independent High Electoral Commission announced the approval of the Council of Ministers on the Commission's proposal to set the date of December 22, 2018 as the date for holding provincial elections in Iraq.
