A quick drill-down on the WTO website reveals little about Iraq’s induction, or “accession” as it is formally called, into the WTO. This accession is coordinated by what is called a “working party."
Iraq's Working Party was established on 13 December 2004. The Working Party met for a second time in April 2008. The Working Party is chaired by Ambassador Omar HILALE (Morocco).
There are 35 documents available online that have been created by this Working party, the earliest dated 11/10/2004 and the most recent created on 09/06/2016. Not a lot of activity in 12 years for something viewed as critical to their accession, or recognition by the WTO.
The only calendar item for today (November 17, 2017) is "Working Party on the Accession of Iraq — Informal Meeting” at 10:00 in Room D.
In my opinion, if Iraq is going to be inducted into the WTO it makes no sense that the only mention of Iraq on today’s WTO agenda is an “informal” meeting.
