World Bank linking financial support for Iraq reconciliation

BAGHDAD ( Reuters )
Regional Director of the World Bank for the Middle East Farid Belhaj, said the bank intends to provide financial support for Iraq in parallel with projects to take care of reconciliation after the defeat al (Daesh) so as to ensure the sustainability of reconstruction after years of conflict.
Belhadj said that « the battle of Mosul keep all those forces together», referring to the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish forces involved in the battle of the restoration of a second major Iraqi cities from the hand of state regulation ».
He continued, « In addition to the financial support to be going to bring people who have experience in rebuilding community relations from a number of countries around the world», referring to South Africa, Morocco and Rwanda experiences.
He added, «This will be a parallel path. We will make sure the flow of funds for reconstruction, but in order to be sustainable , we need to make sure that the drafting of the social contract in the form of infrastructure allows consistently solid. »
The World Bank approved in December (last December) a new loan of 1.485 billion dollars to help Iraq 's economy in the face of falling oil prices and the burden of the cost of the war against «Daesh» Total support for Baghdad to reach about $ 3.4 billion.
Belhadj said that the World Bank also offered to provide advice to the government regarding the preservation of the Mosul Dam, but he is not involved in financing or arranging the company «Trevi» Italian which was chosen by the last year to carry out much - needed reform of the dam.
