Adam Montana
It certainly doesn't take a rocket surgeon or a brain scientist to see that oil is silly low right now. After you take into account for inflation, it's even more obvious that this low rate cannot last.
Now, if a bunch of numbskulls like us can easily see that oil should probably be closer to $80... don't you think Iraq can, too? I certainly do.
As I type this, oil hasn't moved and we still haven't seen any significant news on the HCL.
The GOOD news is that it also doesn't take a genius to grasp that oil is probably about as low as it can possibly go, which means there's only one way for it to go from here. UP.
And the GREAT news is that in spite of these ridiculously low oil prices, the CBI has maintained a very strong grip on the exchange rate, proving that they are, as always, very capable of manipulating their market how they wish.
...at this time I think our motto is: "Watch the oil".
[What's your take on Iraq getting the approval from the UN and WTO on the upcoming issue of Articular 8?]
I've never placed a major emphasis on Article 8, and I still don't. That would be a strategic detail, whereas I still believe it's more about the fundamentals at this time.
Those fundamental things have been whittled down to a very short list:
1. HCL. I like short lists! Here's something for everyone to consider, speaking of fundamentals. I made a big deal out of how the Kurds and Baghdad were getting along so much better lately. If you've been in this for long, you will know that we used to ALWAYS see article after article about 7% this and 14% that and Kuwait boycotting Parliament due to non-payment and on and on... have you seen much of that lately? Or any? Nope.
It's been very quiet on that front, because they've got those fundamentals worked out. They're playing nice with each other, and despite the wait...
I really like our odds once we start seeing oil go back up.

I like the odds that the prosecutors are actively gathering information on you. I also like the fact that every time you open your mouth you provide them with more evidence for your conviction.

The price of oil has absolutely nothing to do with the IQD's value. It was a little less than a tenth of a penny five years ago when oil was $120 a barrel and it's a little less than a tenth of a penny today. Iraq maintains a stable exchange rate by pegging to the USD. What moves the value up and down is monetary considerations like inflation. For a Harvard graduate "Adam" sure is ignorant about these things.

Adam you are showing your true mental capacity. How? See beow a few examples:
" It certainly doesn't take a rocket surgeon or a brain scientist to see that oil is silly low right now." AH, ADAM, ROCKET SURGEON? BRAIN SCIENTIST? Boy oh Boy are you showing your mental prowess - EVERYONE (but you) knows it is ROCKET SCIENTIST AND BRAIN SURGEON!
"The GOOD news is that it also doesn't take a genius to grasp that oil is probably about as low as it can possibly go, which means there's only one way for it to go from here. UP." ADAM, I HATE TO TELL YOU BUT OIL CAN STILL GO DOWN. If the middle east producers (Iran etc,) keep upping their volume where do you think the price will go? More oil on the market means less value to the oil. Dah! You might not be old enough to remember the old gas wars, but some of us still do and they were caused by the oil companies lowering the price of gas by either having too much on hand or trying to do in another company. Was good for us as we got cheap gas to run the car heater in the drive-in during the winter and go cruising during the summer. Not a good thing for the value of the dinar.
SEE, Adam, two sterling examples of your intellectual failings. Need I continue? Nah, all you want is for people to join your club and pay you for nothing to be VIP members. Dream on!

We could see oil climb slightly, though industry experts do not expect to see prices back in the $80 range anytime soon. It could also drop, depending on how many countries actually agree to limit production and actually carry through on that agreement. Who gets into the White House is also likely to have an effect on the prices. In the end it's a simple matter of supply and demand.

Always has been supply and demand; always will be. Oil is a commodity just like hog bellies, corn, hay, cars, houses or yachts.

In all honesty the only "guru" I even half way trust is bondlady and her people. They are not always right, but at least they are attempting to provide an accurate, factual analysis of the situation. Most of the rest are just spreading hype, lies and misinformation most likely for personal gain or to have their egos stroked. It amazes me that people continue to trust and follow someone with a track record of not having been correct, ever. In many cases, for years.
