The series date on the USD has nothing to do with the printing date. It denotes when the plates were made. This is only changed when there is a major design change. New plates are also made when there is a new Secretary of the Treasury or Treasurer of the United States, but generally they are only denoted by a capital letter after the date i.e. 2003A, although I have noted that when there is a new Secretary of Treasury, there always seems to be a new series even though I would think a new signature would be a minor change, especially since a new Treasurer's signature is.

There are 2013 series notes out with Jack Lew's signature on them. If you recall there was a brouhaha over him changing his signature at the time as it was originally just a couple of loopy lines that looked more like scribble than a signature. The $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 notes are all now in circulation. Keep in mind that because much of the plates are still hand engraved by only a few master engravers, there is a long lead time. The Series 2013 $20.00 note for example was not released mid year 2014, so most of the notes in your billfold will still be 2009 series notes with Geithner's autograph.

I was talking about the 2009 date of the last bills made by the Fed, or, Treasury, not the series date- You are correct, however about the Jack Lew 2013 notes, or the later released 2014 notes, and I have yet to see a note with a 'later' date on it than the 2009, jus' sayin'-Thank you for showing me this- :cheers:

I actually have seen a couple. Not quite sure what you are meaning, they are printing replacement bills constantly. The Fed periodically sends requests for the quantity they anticipate needing, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prints them out and ships them to the reserve banks, who distributes them as needed. The average lifespan of all bills is about 5 years, with the $10 wearing out quickest at about 3.4 years, and the $50 living the longest, about 12.6. The Fed replaces about 6 billion notes a year which accounts for most of (70%) of the notes printed. For 2016, the fed has ordered 7.6 billion notes, valued at $213.3 billion.

I'm just saying that I've never seen the new bills, I guess I'm not lucky enough-I'm meaning that I have not personally seen the 2013, or the 2014 bills, but I'm not saying that they don't exist-The only ones I have seen as of late are the 2009 bills -

NO 2014 series, just 2013 for when Lew became Secretary of Treasury.
