Re: Largest Model Railroad-
I'm pretty sure I have been there many moons ago. We would frequently go to Flemington (actually Ringos), to ride the Black River and Western RR. We used to also hit the hobby store that sold Lionel O gauge stuff.

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
The railcars that were self powered back a few years ago {Doodlebugs} were refurbished here in Mount Dora, Florida at Edwards Railcar Company, about 15 miles from me in Leesburg-It originally came from the Essex Connecticut Tourist railway, and I remember seeing it back in '83- I rewired and painted the #55 ex Sperry railcar, painted it Pullman Green, with red trim-When it was finished, it made it's maiden voyage at Ringos, New Jersey, as their 'Delaware Turtle'-Later on, I believe it was leased to the Tourist railroad in Globe, Arizona- It has been since shipped by long bed trailer truck to Montgomery Alabama, the last I knew-I really enjoyed the experience of being a part of it, as a good time refurbishing it was had by all who participated- As far as hobby shops, There are none locally, and rather than put up with heavy traffic, going to Orlando, I usually buy my trains and parts from Trainworld, in New York, through mail order, and nobody can beat their prices- Usually around a week for delivery, so it's not too long a wait-

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
Is that a part of the old New York Central line, or is it remnants of the old Boston and Albany? Nice pic, though-

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
It would be the old New York Central Line From Utica to Lake Placid, two segments have trains running on them Saranc Lake - Lake Placid, and Utica to Thendara. The SL-LP stretch is a beautiful ride, I have not ridden the Utica segment yet, but knowing the country I am sure it is just as beautiful. They are working on completing repairs to the remaining segment between Thendara and SL.

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
That'a good thing and I hope they see the project through to completion, and will make for a marvelous ride and experience- It is a crying shame that a lot of railroads got torn up and scrapped-They could have been refurbished at least so others could enjoy them, along with the history and nostalgia that was with it-I love railroads, and history of the Transcontinental Railroad, and how it got it's start-

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
Well, now, I have finished repairing and sprucing up one 4-4-0 Woodburner 1860 steam locomotive and weathered tender, now before the week is out, I am in hopes of having the rest done, so I can run them around the Christmas tree this year-I hope to send pics in to share with everyone here- The ol' Pudgy Red Suited one will be staving your chimney up before you know it! I received word yesterday, that Rudolph will no longer lead Santa's sleigh, as he picked his nose, and was electrocuted- 'Chet' was put in his place- Santa had to install seatbelts and a 'roll' cage in his beefed up sled- That ought to be one scary assed ride, eh? Santa shipped alot of them via Fed-Up, and U.P.D, just to be on the safe side.....

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
I'm glad- These trains I am refurbishing are the G scale Christmas trains you can find at some Wall Mart stores, and are battery operated, which cuts down on home electrical consumption, as the big G scale electric trains I have, draw alot of power, at 24-36-48 volts at 40-60 amps-And with 5 of these types of trains running all at once twists the meter off the side of the house, if you know what I mean- My 2 battery powered ones underneath the tree will have the spirit of Christmas up and running, just like the big department store windows had at Christmas time, in the big cities- I used to love to go to Freeze's Department store, or Sears, and watch the trains through a big window,in a glass showcase- It was and still is a nice touch for the holiday season!

It's really so hard to imagine that one person is talented in so many different ways. Without the trains, all the rest of that is nothing short of a work of art. I would not even know where to begin.

Agreed- I wouldn't build a model railroad to that degree of advancement-A 20x35 basement would overwhelm me-My hat is off to that man, I'll say that-

I have one course of train track finished, and now for the second one, only this larger course of track I will need to disassemble from it's original layout in my shed, needs to be painted and detailed, at a later date-It is black plastic, and would rather have it look more realistic than what it is- Will post more as work progresses-

You do, seriously? There are a few movie clips, after the first one, and you may not have seen them all- Do you own Lionel trains? I wish I still had the set my Dad got me in 1958-

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
Yes everything I own is Lionel, original stuff. Some was my dad's when he was a kid. I have one very old set I want to have restored when I have the bucks to spare. Or maybe I'll try it myself. Hopefully the original paint is still somewhat intact underneath.

You've got a gold mine- Pre-war and post war Lionel trains are really up there in price- Is that trolley and the GS-1 really yours, or do you have any like them? Did you see all the flicks after the first one? Good stuff!!

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
Yea, they are mine. We bought the Trolley late 50's or early 60's. Missing the wire on top. The GG1 is dark green - Penn Central colors. Decals are mostly worn off, but still have the pantographs for the top. Also have an original milk car and sheriff and bandit, crossing shack, and some other odds and ends. None in mint condition, as most have seen several of generations of regular use

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
BUT- They are worth money, and the repairs will be fairly easy to do, and the there's places that will paint and re letter old Lionel stock, that is what some of them specialize in- It would be worth it, I think-

Oh I have no doubt, all things in the proper time. I am still busy with getting the house and yard ready for winter. Family has to come before toys. I have no intention of selling any of it right now, there is no rush. I may start working on a set up in the basement this winter. It'll have to be sturdy, that GG1 engine is heavy, at least 10 lbs.

A few 2x6's, and some 3/4 inch plywood will fit the bill nicely- You could even build a 'pit' for maintenance on the GG-1!! Just make sure the pantographs are down!

Re: Largest Model Railroad-
Hey Terbo, a buddy of mine modeled the Kennicott Mine to scale. Took up 12' x 56'. Even has miniture burlap bags for the copper ore on the flat cars.
Too bad Iraq can't follow suit and RV like this guy completed his model. Maybe they need to go to modelers school? How about join the railroad club? Gee, I'd settle for them to agree on something and just do the revaluation thing and let this all come to a positive end. Sigh, maybe I ask for too much?
