~wanted to share my experience today while attempting to open a checking account at my local WF today ~ 7/23/15 :(
Permalink Reply Quote Printer Friendly
Ok I went to my local WF today for the purpose of opening a checking account ( apart of getting ready so i don't have to get ready so to speak! )
I walked in & was greeted by the first lady who asked how they could help me, and I explained i would like to set up a checking account, and she took me to this other lady sitting at the second cubical & she asked for my DL and another form of ID & proceeded to help to open my checking account. I also asked if i could speak to there wealth manager, that i was expecting to come into some money soon & that's when she asked me about it? asked what was i expecting and i went ahead & said i have several foreign currencies that eventually i would like to exchange, all the while trying not to divulge too much info & one of the ladies who was still standing by us asked is one of the currencies the dinari? lol and as she said it she kind of looked at me with this strange look on her face? and i said, as a matter of fact yes one of them happens to be the iraqi dinar, but that wasn't the only one that i also have VND & ZIM.
and as soon as i said yes that i did have iraqi dinar, the lady standing by us,( the first lady that came to help me when i came into the bank) automaticly called it a scam & said they will not do any business with it.
I was like ok, i understand what you are saying & I know you are told to say that, but im sorry i have to disagree with you, it is actually not a scam and its legal for us to purchase it, and i explained for them to go look up 13303 and explained that it gives us the right to purchase iraqi dinar etc. but i encouraged them to go look it up. I also said that where i purchased mine they are a legitimate legal company that are licensed with the federal reserve & that i have reciepts even for all my currency, so I am by no means involved in something that is illegal. ( I was talking in a very nice and calm voice and being very professional as i could)
I even towards the end explained that i even have a good friend who actually exchanged some of his currencies, and that he went to a WF bank, of course i didnt give them any personal info , did not explain his city or state, or his name etc. of course.
At one point the lady i was dealing with to open my account, went to go get the Branch mgr. to come help speek for her, and i explained i would like to open a reg checking account. at first they were happy to help me, but the lady that was helping me at the desk ask but your main reason for opening the account was for the iraqi dinar? I was like sure, thats one of the reasons if you all would be able to help me yes, of course? but not the only reason.
she then went to talk to her branch mgr, who then came and told me at first...that she couldn't open up an account for me? because i wanted to do my exchange with them & that they will NOT have anything to do with it because It is illegal and they will not be a part of anything illegal.
but then after i got little upset and rightfully so! she then agreed after i said well thats not the only reason. but then a few min. later she came back and said sorry we can not help you, after she came back from being on the phone with her boss.
( i even explained to them no i just want to open an account, not just for that, but for my own personal use and would love to talk to there wealth manager to see what all there bank can offer me, on a personal level now, as i am a truck driver and im not rich by no means but i would be interested in seeing what they might have to help me financialy now without my currencies etc. so the account, i was saying wasn't just for that but yes of course whenever it does RV i would be also interested, if they would at that time still be inerested of course, but if not i would still be interested in opening an account) oh and at one point the lady in front of me and the branch Mgr. were looking at something on her screen that they never showed me, and would not show me, and they both looked at the screen then looked at each other with a strange look and then bacily told me they could not open an account for me.
OMG i was extremely pissed! i asked to see in writing there rule/law that shows that they can not open a checking account to anyone who mentions the dinar or possibly exchanging the dingar? and she said she could not show me that it was private inside bank info. and so at this point i felt extremely offended and i was very upset but i was still trying to stay professional of course. so i said ok, well can I record what you just told me? and she looked shocked that i asked her that, and was like NO you CANNOT record me!
I said ok well i want to speak to your supervisor, that i have NEVER been treated this badly EVER!!! and that i was completely shocked! I even after all that made the comment that , thats ok I don't have to take my business with WF, I can easily take my business accross the street to Chase Bank.
she ended saying sorry and handed me her biz card and another card with a number circled and a name written on it that i could talk to her boss.
I took it and said thank you, and walked out.
anyways ... then a few hours later after id gotten home, i decided to try to go online to WF online account, and i found out i could sign up for a WF online, so i was like ok... let me try this.
so i went thru filling out the whole thing and it asked for a min. of $25 to open a checking account. ( and when i was going to open an account at the actual bank they said i would have to open with $50 which i was willing to do of course) and gave my credit card info, to pay for my $25 ok? and i was able to finish my transaction on the site. and when i finally finished it. I got a message that says that i was basicly turned down for this transaction, and it would not give a reason? just said i would be mailed a letter explaining the reason within 3 business days?
I was like WOW!? and below that it said i could call this number and showed the number, that i could possibly be eligable for. So i did? and they were like well you can but you would have to go to your local WF in person? and the guy said ok well hold on maybe we can help you with another type of account over the phone/internet? so i was like oh ok great! because I work long hours and don't always have time to go by the bank etc, that i would appreciate there help.
so he got this other lady on the phone, but she basicly after i gave my ss# which they asked for that in order to help me, said she was sorry but she wasn't able to help me either? that she's sorry but i would have to go into the bank to get help with those other accounts?
and mind you of course i did not mention my previous bad experience with my local WF.
So basicly sounds like i have been barred or black listed from opening an account with WF! :(
anyways I wanted to share my experience with everyone here so whatever you do if you go into a WF to open an account by ALL means DO NOT EVER mention the dinar or any currencies, even if they ask you and put you on the spot,... esp the dinar, or they could put you on a black list or block you from being able to open a checking account with them.
I wished now that i would have went online to open my account first before i went to my local WF in person , probibly would have been allot easier and without all the hassle and being treated like a criminal. :(

Hi Babe, you are not alone. We tried exactly the same at 2 WF branches in MT. Same results even better they escorted us out the door! One the way out the BM said whispering to my wife go across the street at that bank the folks there are a lot nicer - US Bank.
When the dust settles all will be nice and willing.

Don't try US BANK they tell you right up front that of you are going to put any money from a currency deal that they will consider it fraud and would report the crime to the government. And they would confiscate all your assets if you say anything about a currency or exchange. It already happened to me months ago.

My husband and I opened a checking account at two separate banks, we
deposited 100.00 in each one and never said a single word about why.
No problems that way.

Wow unbelievable!!! Especially since your friend exchanged at a Wells Fargo. All I can say is when this does pop, I hope you go back to that same branch with your head held high, after you have exchanged elsewhere, and talk to those same people and tell them they really missed out on a chance to help you and make some commissions!!!

In my experience, dealing with all Banks not just Wells, you want to open an account, tell them you will set up direct deposit from your job so on payday the funds go directly to them.
After you tell them that and nothing about exchange of foreign currency, They won't have any problem setting you up. Trust me on this. I know.
Once the account is open you can use it for nay purpose that is legally allowed.
Good luck to all!

Wow, it seems like something is going on that just does not seem right. I am so sorry that folks have been treated this way. However, this confirms that I will not use WF.

Well I guess this tells us that once we cash in we don't leave any money at Wells Fargo. I too have been having trouble with Wells Fargo and I have been with them since 1999 I had a sweep account which they now tell me I can't have because the government says that it's laundering money how that happens I have no idea but they close my account and made me open up a new account. I am really upset because now it looks like I have just been with Wells Fargo less than a year. Believe you me once I cash in none of it will stay there very long

WOW! good for you!! I'm glad you were finally able to open an account!
yeah there crazy and very very very unprofessional if you ask me, they don't have to be so rude and mean about it.
should be illegal to treat people so rudely esp when we are being very kind and nice and not trying to cause any problems just would like to open an account.

Not sure why any of you feel the need to tell them why you are opening your account. Just open it, use it, and empty it when you do your exchange so it is only your dinar cash in there. You can then move your money when you want to. You don't need to tell them anything. Banks are nutso period, and too many people have called them about the dinar so they are on their worst behavior. It will have to be on their terms. When it happens we will find out what those terms are. Until then they will be unwilling to deal. I've had mine for years now with very little money in it and nobody bothers me about it. I don't feel the need to talk to them about any of this. There will be time after the currency changes value, whenever that is to do all of this stuff. We won't know any of the details until then anyway, so all this running around upfront is really just making you crazy and frankly probably causing even more restrictions overall for us.

Last year when we thought the r.v. was imminent, I went into a W.F. and just said I wanted to open an account. No questions as to "why" .....they gave me temporary checks and was on my way. Absolutely none of their business "why" I wanted the account. However.....after paying $12 per month fees for the account in order to maintain a zero balance ( $12x11=$132).... I closed it after 11 months. Will open account when I exchange.

Went to the above posted URL
On the first page about half way down
Iraqi Dinar
Wells Fargo does not sell Iraqi dinar in any location - online, by phone, or in our stores.
Also checked the list of currencies
Vietnam Dong is Not on the list

Truckerbabe, WOW, that is too bad you were treated like that. Perhaps your friend that exchanged can introduce you to his wealth manager!!!!!!!!! Your post sounds like you walked into a branch that has put their employees in panic mode at the mention of Dinar. That is too bad that you had to endure that type of treatment. Hang in there, pretty soon they will be begging for your business and then you can get "extra perks" if they now want your business.
I ran into a similar situation with a different WM at WF several months back, but luckily all he did was laugh at me and tell me it is a scam. In an appt last week with two different WF Wealth Managers we briefly discussed the fact that I had some foreign currency for speculation. I even listed the amounts and types I hold in my asset section of the booklet I had to fill out so they could put together a few scenarios for my retirement. Both of the WMgrs that are working with me are aware of these assets and they have been very professional and helpful, although we have never discussed exchanging the currencies that I hold...YET!

Sorry you experienced this Truckerbabe... Basically, you can thank all the people who have been badgering Wells Fargo trying to become early exchangers or otherwise fishing for information. If they had listened and heeded Tony's advice not to contact the banks about Dinar and exchanging currencies with the RV, then we wouldn't be in this situation with the banks. Perhaps if you wait a while, things will cool off and you can open that account that you wanted.

It is soo unfortunate that you had togo through that. We all know that they are sensitive to the dinar......why announce it.
If you have noticed WF has reorganized their entire foreign currency operation......purchases can no-longer be made from any branch...it has to be an internationally citified per their staff........
IT IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD TO LET THE RIGHT HAND KNOW WHAT LEFT HAND IS DOING!!!!!!

Bummer You were treated that way...
Does bring to mind what Tony and DC have said many times.... Very Few Bank Branches are directly involved in the RV process even to the point of them renting out "Other Spaces" to handle the RV. Many calls have handled the questions.. will there even be an "Exchange" location where I live...
While the so called "Big 5 Banks" are involved.. they simply do NOT want their employees running out and buying dinar etc as they will lose their work force over night soooo they are Lying to their employees to minimize the mass exodus.
We can end up doing our exchange in the "Back Room" of the bank, in a shopping center not even near a bank, a office building...or who knows... They simply will have to deal with their employees as they learn the truth in time....
That is the importance of the 800 numbers to be directed to the "Special Exchange Locations" as I understand it. which I Hope is VERY VERY Soon !!!

Within the past month I tried setting up new accounts online but when I hadn't received anything in the mail I called them. They helped me set up a savings and a checking account after I answered a lot of questions. I had hesitated in doing this sooner as I have two mortgages with them and I didn't want rejected because I have one paid ahead of time each month and the other in default now for 12 payments because I had a back injury nearly two years ago and I couldn't make the payments because of a decreased income. I make contact with them each month to let them know that I anticipate being able to make the delinquent account payments very soon.
So the two accounts were set up and the next day I received the letter concerning the online accounts that I had tried to set up saying that I would have to contact them to set them up, which is what I had just done the day before so all was and is good. I needed to put $25 in each account and I put $30 instead.
Truckerbabe, I don't think the online one rejected you because of your contact with the local office or any blacklist. I think there is something that they are super cautious about that is stopping the online requests.
I just wish this would get moving soon so we can all have our money in the banks.
Come RV come!

Or Anyone inquiring about currency is a terrorist? I mean what in the world does it say?? The bank people staring at each other with strange looks.. This entire ordeal is getting Weird & Goofy!!
I'm very curious!!!!!!hmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmm what the bank people are seeing.
I have an online account I just set up with wells, But I'm also going to set-up with Chase, & TD Bank.. just in case I need to negotiate..

Truckerbabe I've been having an account with Wells for years and that really surprised me. I was in the other day with my daughter and they harassed my daughter to death to get an account. They have
accounts with me but not by themselves. He opened the account and she didn't have to put any money in it for 6 months. I told her to wait until we rv. We didn't mention about our currencies though. It was
a special promotion or something. Hopefully, we can rv an use it before they require us to put money in it. They have free accounts because my check is deposited there directed. On another note, I asked
my WM a few months ago about the dinar and he was very rude and mean about it. I will not be working with him after this is done. He used the word scam as well. He was to mean and bossy as to why
I will not be using him.
Hang in Truckerbabe...we will be exchanging soon and you will be able to choose which bank or banks were you want to keep your money in. Don't worry about it for now.

Read 13303. It does not say we can purchase dinar. It is for protecting investors in Iraq

I agree and the only real potential benefits of opening an account with one of the suspected exchange banks is they may give some type of quick exchange preferential treatment. Other than that , these accounts are futile. You will not exchange INTO these type of accounts... these accounts you're setting up are basic accounts, they will open you some type of premium account. Your efforts to open these basic accounts scream: I am unsophisticated! Sorry.

Sad you were treated that way..I have been a customer since 2004. But yes just open one and don't mention the Dinar....none of their business anyway until this pops...But I would go back in there after the RV and smirk at them....It's not mature but it will feel good!! But we all know that memo is part of the plan to keep their employees from buying and leaving later....But once this does go you're going to see some class action lawsuits from employees at banks against the bank for lying about it...They may never go anywhere but it will be attempted....

Believe you me once I cash in none of it will stay there very long

yeah there crazy and very very very unprofessional if you ask me, they don't have to be so rude and mean about it.
should be illegal to treat people so rudely esp when we are being very kind and nice and not trying to cause any problems just would like to open an account.
