IF IRAQ WANTS TO GET GOING AND DIVERSIFY THEIR ECONOMY THEY NEED A RATE TO DO IT.
ALSO THE TARRIF LAWS CANT BE IMPLEMENTED WITHOUT A RATE. WHAT GOOD IS A BUDGET WITHOUT A RATE? HOW COULD IT BE OPENED UP TO THE PUBLIC? REMEMBER THEY SAID ONE BASKET! One vote!

Same thing I said to Tony's drivel. They have a rate 1166/USD. It's public and it will work just fine, especially since any tariff is collected on entry of goods into the country. The same goes for the budget, nothing here dictates a change in value, let alone a major change in value.

Really, what are they going to put tariffs on? The biggest imports are food and iron. Cars, I guess. I can't imagine that refined petroleum is going to be a popular item to put a tariff on.
One of the prime reasons to put tariffs on imports is to make imported goods more expensive than internally produced goods. What the hell does Iraq make that they need the additional protection of a tariff?
It's more dinarland common 'wisdom.'

There is a whole list of things that would be subject to tariff, I do not remember them all off the top of the head, but if I am recalling correctly foodstuffs were exempt, but things like steel, concrete etc were not.

In my world, tariffs are customs on imports. I suppose you can have internal taxation on utilities, goods, and services and call them tariffs as well. Not sure that double and triple taxing internal business to business or business to people does much to spur the economy along.

By the way...
To what would you suggest they diversify into? What possible industries are ripe to grow for the purposes of exporting goods and services for the purposes of bringing outside money into Iraq?
Sure... you can use the words and I guess it makes you sound smart to some.
But ticktock, you don't have anything to back your idea up.
They could export corruption, terrorism, and sectarian violence I suppose...

iraq was one of th worlds leading producers of dates before they stopped . iraq wanted to start slow with the tarriffs for imports such as appliances cars and high end luxury items. abadi comes from the eco side with the help of saleh shabs imf un and wb it will take some time but iraq will grow greatly besides there oil gas and minerals. backdoc is correct

If you read the tariff law and the discussions surrounding it ... umm ... a couple of years back now I think, it was very clearly no internal taxes but taxes on imports of "luxury" items.

Iraq can sell a trillion dollars worth of dates (which they won't), doesn't matter what their rate is. They sell a trillion dollars worth of dates at 1166, they get a trillion dollars. They sell a trillion dollars worth of dates at 1 to 1, they still get a trillion dollars. Backdoc is a clueless idiot.
