They don't see it and wont' see it. It's too painful to admit you have been conned, it's much easier to deny it and hold on to that one thought "Maybe he could be right".

 I understand this, it's not easy to let go of a dream even if you know there is no end in sight, so, instead of facing reality and realizing you're about to lose your house, it's just easier to hope and dream that it could be true. Sad, but it's life.
