American Humanist Association Files Lawsuit Against Teacher Who Prayed For Injured Student
By Khier Casino, Wed, November 27, 2013
A lawsuit was filed by the anti-Christian activist group American Humanist Association (AHA) on behalf of two students accusing public school teacher Gwen Pope and the Fayette R-III School District of letting a Christian club meet before the school day began.
The complaint, filed Nov. 20 by the secular organization, says the teacher broke the law by praying for an injured student, organizing a project to feed hungry children and cavorting with a Methodist, according to Townhall.com.
Pope does not teach at the school anymore, but was the sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Students at Fayette High School. The group was formed in 2010, and has since been holding prayer meetings before the start of the school day.
The anti-Christian group claims the two unidentified students had dealt with “unwelcome encounters with the classroom prayer sessions.” Non-believing students allegedly saw their classmates inside the classroom as they took part in religious activities.
“This display violates the Establishment Clause as a student would reasonably perceive it as her promoting her religious views to her students,” the group said in a statement.
Fox News host Todd Starnes spoke to the school superintendent on Monday, saying they haven’t gotten a copy of the lawsuit yet.
“The district strives to respect and abide by the constitutional rights of its students and staff members,” the superintendent said in a statement. “It will vigorously defend against any claim that the district has taken actions which violate any persons’ First Amendment rights.
Monica Miller, an attorney for the group, says the prayer meetings continue this year, but it’s not clear whether a teacher is involved.
The Associated Press reported that a student plaintiff is still enrolled in the school.

Re: American Humanist Association Files Lawsuit Against Teacher Who Prayed For Injured Student
They have lost time and again, the Supreme Court has clearly ruled as to the constitutionality of Christian student organizations in schools, student initiated prayer and the staff participating, but these clowns and others keep trying to achieve through intimidation what they could not do legally.
