The Thanksgiving Thread!
I thought this might be fun for everyone if we have a Thanksgiving Thread where we can share annecdotes, recipes or whatever pertaining to Thanksgiving! We don't celebrate it in Australia so don't really know what I am doing but I know food and decorating LOL!

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread!
Why thank you Miss ROSE !!!! This is perfect ! How thoughtful of you since it isn't even a holiday that you have. But then again, we don't necessarily need a holiday to express our thanfulness of life's blessings do we? I am looking forward to adding to this thread.

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread!
Good idea AlleyRose! Like Ponee said, even thought you don't celebrate Thanksgiving where you live, its nice to think of this. Yes, we need to be thankful for things everyday, not just Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving for my family has always been a time for a big feast of food, with family, and friends. It's a day that we can all take time to get together from our busy life, and take time to visit.
We always have way too much food. We always have the Turkey and dressing, ham, sweet potatoes, and many other side dishes. After stuffing ourselves with this food, comes the cakes, and pies! Of course they all are homemade!
I love this time with family and friends. Of course then, it is the men that have to head out because, they have to head out to the deer camps for Friday. Me, I head to the camp to ride my horse until Sunday.
I am so thankful for Traditions, such as Thanksgiving, with all the memories that have been made in the past. It never fails that we all will bring up the memories of past Thanksgivings, and the people that are no longer with us. I do treasure those good memories!

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread!
Twice baked sherried sweet potatoes, cranberry-orange relish, and turkey & stuffing are staples here, the rest is pretty much optional. Sometimes family, sometimes friends, and sometimes just us. Friday or Saturday depending on the weather, we hunt down the perfect tree.

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread!
A Piece of Pumpkin Pie?
Jolene was only eight years old and lived way out in the country with her parents who rarely entertained any visitors. One day Jolene's mother said that her father was bringing two guests home for Thanksgiving supper.
After they had enjoyed the turkey, Jolene went to the kitchen to help her mother. She proudly brought out the first piece of pumpkin pie and gave it to her father, who then passed the plate to a guest.
When Jolene came out with the second piece and gave it to her father, he again gave it to a guest. This was too much for the little girl. "It's no use, Daddy," she cried. "The pieces are all the same size."

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread!
GRRRRR, lost my post....
That's the Aussie spirit, Alleyoops....Don't let Purps get you down about my ancestors landing here raping an killing indians and stealing their land, and then celebrating by giving thanks for all of their blessings.
One of my favorite groups said it best in a song from early 70's
Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches
But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light
And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man
But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light
The blue and gray they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog
And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

John Kaye is touring again... and played a casino near where I am at. Did not go but would have loved to see what he became. Had Goldie still been around... I would have been there with bells on!
