Cabinet Authorises Bombardier Contract

The Iraqi cabinet has authorized the Transport Ministry to sign a contract with the Canadian firm Bombardier.

The deal will involve the purchase of five CS300 aircrafts at a cost of $40 million each, according to a report from Aswat al-Iraq.

For anyone wondering the CS-300 is Bombardier's new medium sized commercial airliner with seating ranging from 130 to 160 people (cattle class). It is a single aisle commuter type plane.

No electricity and the people are dirt poor, but $200 million in new jets sounds like a great idea. Who said they cant agree on anything.

Look how much Michelle Obama has spent just on vacations this year. Not to mention all her other special needs and special staff to attend to it all.

I guess the interesting thing about this is that a. Why would they be being these planes in the first place? and b. When your currency currently has the same value to monopoly money...how are they paying for it without some sort of change in their wealth structure?

As to A, I would imagine they are to be used by business people traveling more-or-less locally. In the case of B, it COULD be paid in IQD, but more than likely, they would be paid for in USD.
