Japan supports Vietnam stance on East Sea
Japan supports Vietnam’s stance on the need to maintain peace, stability, and marine freedom and safety in the East Sea, Japanese PM Yoshihiko Noda told Vietnamese Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc at a meeting in Tokyo Sunday.
Also at the meeting, he pledged his country would continue to support Vietnam by providing official development assistance (ODA), and study Vietnam’s proposals for enhancing cooperation.
Phuc, who has led a high-ranking delegation to Japan, hailed Japan for providing its highest-ever ODA to the country, and promised the loans would be used effectively.
While bilateral cooperation and investment relations are developing well, with two-way trade reaching US$21 billion last year, the potential has yet to be fully exploited, he said.
He called on Noda to take steps to strengthen economic cooperation and trade.
Japan pledged more than 208 billion yen ($2.5 billion) to Vietnam in fiscal year 2011, the highest since it resumed ODA to Vietnam 20 years ago.
