I assume if you live in a no income tax state you are already aware of it. If anyone is planning to make a trip to a no income tax state to cash in and avoid the tax where you live, you are going to get a nasty surprise at tax time. States with income tax will tax residents of that state based on their federal income tax, they don't care where you were when you got the income, they will tax you on it. Only way to avoid it is to become a resident of the no income tax state PRIOR to cashing in. Always check with your CPA or tax attorney to be sure

The biggest thing to consider is not only the income tax per state but the overall tax burden. ie, sales tax, property tax, etc. There is really a lot to consider when looking to move to a different state.

As a sidebar, AJ Anderson's Asset Protection 101 course, a trust or an LLC can be set up in a tax friendly state through a registered agent without maintaining personal residency there.

And don't forget the cost of living, Alaska has almost no taxes, but a high cost of living.
