What ever happened to may 21st?

On Harold Camping:

"Reporter: I know you’re convinced this is going to happen, but if May 22 comes around and you’re still here, can we talk again?
Harold: I can’t even think about that question because you’re thinking that maybe, maybe Judgment Day will not happen. But it will happen, and I believe the Bible implicitly."

Note - According to Camping, it was irrefutable. Why?

Is Camping rich or something?
"Worth more than $120 million and with 66 stations throughout the country, the network’s broadcasts reach as far as Nigeria."

Question: What if that money, time and energy had been put towards community stabilization?
