The newspaper, in a report, today, said that the United States called on Baghdad to "take measures" to protect American interests in the country after a wave of attacks that were blamed on "Iranian-backed groups", considering that "Tehran has increasing influence in Iraq, especially Through armed factions. "
She added, "Since October 28, ten missile attacks have targeted areas where US soldiers and diplomats are based," noting that "the United States has blamed Iran-backed paramilitary groups."
The newspaper added, that US Defense Secretary Mark Esper expressed "his concern about the attacks on bases in Iraq where the American forces are present", in connection with the outgoing Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.
The newspaper indicated that Aspire told Abdul Mahdi, "The United States has" the right to self-defense, and that we ask our Iraqi partners to take pre-emptive measures ... to control that, because it is not in the interest of any party. "
Abdul-Mahdi's office issued a statement earlier on Monday confirming the phone call and asking everyone "to spare no effort to prevent the escalation that threatens all parties," according to the newspaper.
"Unilateral decisions will provoke negative reactions that make controlling the situation more difficult and threatening Iraq’s security, sovereignty, and independence," he said.
