Shafaq News / According to Arab reports, Sunni political leaders in Iraq are starting to move early to get the post of President of the Republic.
The site "Arab 21" "the most prominent Sunni leaders in Iraq, will start soon rounds negotiating with the Kurdish and Shiite political blocs to obtain the presidency of the Republic, and abandon the presidency of parliament."
He said that "a new approach to the Sunni leaders are trying to get the presidency of the Republic as it is considered the executive authority according to the Iraqi constitution, but his powers need the laws of the parliament to determine."
The report quoted sources as saying that "the most prominent candidates for the post of President of the Republic are: Salim Jubouri, Osama Najafi, Khamis Khanjar, Iyad Samarrai, and Jamal Karbouli."
The move comes in line with the trend of the Kurdish forces in Iraq to get the post of parliamentary speaker after the upcoming parliamentary elections, and to abandon the post of President of the Republic, which has remained in their quotas since 2005.
Many parties in the Kurdistan Region called for all positions of sovereignty in Iraq to Negotiations, in the post-parliamentary elections scheduled for May 12.
The MP from the Kurdistan Islamic Union, Jamal Cougar in an interview that "political consensus has been done, especially in passing the budget for this year, after it was passed without the Kurdish component."
The Cougar stressed that Kurdish forces are seeking in the next phase to get the presidency of parliament because the important laws waiting for them in the next phase, and left the presidency of the Republic, which is an honor and no powers in it.
He explained that "all the Kurdish forces, implicitly agree that the presidency is not the position that deserves the Kurds, because it is symbolic and no more honorable, and no powers in the state, and we have demands and grievances with the real state that was built on a distorted basis."
