About your beloved dog
I don't know how to email in so picked this one to try to get to Okie.
I came across on PTR that you had lost your beloved dog. I have lost many over my life. Many.
We must always get a new one - from any shelter that needs a new loving family.
I have lived through it. Over the times through years when I have had to face it and live with it.
I wanted to send to you a single poem (I have others I love) that is my favorite and has kept me knowing where my beloved pets live - and it is beautiful:
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There, is a land of meadows and hills and all of it is covered with lush green grass for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
This one’s bright eyes are intent. This one’s eager body quivers. Suddenly this one begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, legs carrying this one faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....never to be separated again.

Re: About your beloved dog
All of us who love animals have suffered the loss, and our hearts go out to Okie and every other person who has lost a beloved pet. I, too, hope Okie will read these postings and know we support him and his family through a very tough time.
Thanks, Dinarnino, for posting "The Rainbow Bridge". It makes me cry every time I read it, but it's comforting, too, isn't it? I KNOW there will be animals in heaven with us.

Jerry Clower said it best...... "You will never know you have truly been loved..... until you have been loved by a dog."

Dinarnino - I am so thankful that you posted the Rainbow Bridge poem for Okie & his family because it helped me too. My 15 yr old German Shorthaired Pointer Sammy just passed away from cancer in her nose. It was the hardest decision I ever made. She was my shadow everywhere I went. My best friend, protector, joy of my life & I miss her so much. The poem is beautiful & comforting. I hope Okie & his family get the same comfort from it that I did.

Moandjeff: What can anyone say to comfort you upon the loss of your best friend of 15 years? There are so many of us out here who understand and sympathize. Take solace in the fact that you gave Sammy the best life possible, and that she was one of the lucky ones who knew nothing but love in her life. :flower:
