Even more confirmation of the obvious, Iraq has decided to just cancel the redenomination (LOP) it had planned since 2012 and postponed several times and just live with the bloated money supply by issuing ever larger notes. They will now have a new note that's worth slightly less than fifty Dollars to use and have expressed an interest in a 100,000 after the first of the year, this would give them a note similar to the $100 note. Except for the hassle of dealing with those large numbers of zeros in business transactions having that 100,000 along with the 50,000 would alleviate the burden of carrying huge bundles of cash since they would then have a series of notes of much higher value per note, a huge reduction paper notes just as they have been saying all along.

Unless that is meant to be sarchasm then we can agree but I wasn't trying to twist anything. What you said was not clearly defined and could be taken more than one way, based on your stance on other posts including the one I referred to I could only assume you were saying this was again proof of an impending rate increase.

This certainly is indicative of a decision to just remain with the status-quo for the time being and just keep the zeros on the currency, at least for now.

Now who is confusing whom? Print a 50,000 dinar note and say it is only worth 50 dinars? And lop off all the other dinars zero's to get 25, 10, 5 & 1? without changing the currency. Makes no sense to me.
Why didn't they just print a new 50 dinar note or keep the old one?

You forget, this is Iraq we're talking about- They never were or will be very smart, and they should have had 'smaller' notes to begin with-That is like us taking a wheelbarrow full of $1.00 bills to buy a riding lawnmower at Home depot, think of it that way- Same thing- It would look kind of stupid, wouldn't it? Just imagine what it would be like here if the Government removed the $100 and $50 Dollar bills and took away almost all forms of "plastic" payments using cards! The twenty would be the biggest thing you could have so imagine just grocery shopping? Buying a $500 TV maybe? Worse, buying a $20,000 car! That's why Iraq issued the 50,000 and plans on issuing a 100,000, it just makes transactions easier and it's as simple as that. That big number may look like a lot but basically they just issued the equivalent of roughly a $50 bill so what's the big fuss everyone seems to be making? People insisting that the new 50,000 (mostly on other forums) is to only be used for intra-banking purposes, a FIFTY??????? Besides those transactions are done electronically anyway.

I think electronic is the way to go, program a card with a certain amount, and there you go-You do have a very valid point, I didn't think of it like that, and you're right!

Try and imagine using your Master Card in Iraq, sure a lot of places around larger cities will accept them but in the many areas where even electricity is unreliable if available at all what good would they be? Yes they can be used in some cases even with some street vendors but there's still a heck of a lot of places where plastic would be worthless in Iraq so they have a way to go yet in order for plastic to solve their problems.
