Head of the Central Government Punished
This is "SWEEEET". I have resigned to the fact, at least in my own mind, that Maliki is going NOWHERE. Hakim and Sadr have continued to form and strengthen their alliances which have so far been successful in extracting power from Maliki. This is not the quickest way to get all of the pieces in place, but the best way. The fact that one high ranking official from the "SLC", and close Associate of Maliki, was supposedly arrested in London on Sunday with a million US Dollars in cash can't be sitting well with the people. Wonder what Mr. Attiyah's plans were for that money. Just my opinion.
Maliki’s Losses in Local Elections Reflect Failed Economic Policies

Politicians and observers believe that the Iraqi electorate punished the head of the central government in the recent provincial elections. This is because his economic policies, particularly on the provision of services and improving standards of living, have failed.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s State of Law Coalition lost control of most of the provincial governments that it won four years ago. Chief among these is the Baghdad provincial government — the country’s political capital — and that of Basra — Iraq’s economic capital.
Maliki’s opponents, the young clerics Ammar al-Hakim and Muqtada al-Sadr, successfully formed local governments in Baghdad, Basra and a number of Iraq’s central and southern provinces. Yet their blocs came in the second and third places, following Maliki’s bloc, in the local elections in April…

Re: Head of the Central Government Punished
I am sure it doesn't sit well with the "people" at all, but what can they do? They are powerless. It is such a corrupt country, what will actually be done about it? Why do I feel he could lose ALL elections and still be in power.
