MP: Talabani's threat a pressure card for parties in dispute
16/06/2012 09:41
ERBIL, June 15 (AKnews)- Iraqi President Jalal
Talabani's threat of resignation is a pressure card for the parties in
dispute so that they show flexibility to end the current crisis in the
country.
Talabani's resignation is not in the interest of the country, said Adnan Danbus of the Iraqiya List.
Danbus
said Talabani's threat is a reaction to "a huge pressure… and is in
itself a pressure card against the parties so that they show flexibility
towards each other."
Yesterday the content of a letter
Talabani had penned was revealed by al-Hurra TV. The president had
warned should the parties continue pressing him to order withdrawing
confidence from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, he will resign.
He
reiterated that to solve the issue parties in dispute should negotiate
with the National Alliance (NA) and Maliki. In case the talks failed,
the president said he will order withdrawing confidence from Maliki
without resorting to the Iraqi House of Representatives and votes of the
MPs.
Danbus thought that now the most important aim for the
Iraqi politicians is to "seize power… not to develop the political
process in a democratic way which has been established in the
constitution."
Iraqiya MP reiterated that his list and other
parties who demand Maliki leave the post for another candidate hold on
their position.
He added prior to the end of the second
parliamentary recess the steps to impeach Maliki inside the House of
Representatives will be taken.
Key leaders, including Iraqiya
List Leader Ayad Allawi, Kurdistan Region's President Massoud Barzani
and Sadr Current Leader Muqtada al-Sadr, have all described Maliki as a
"dictator" and hope to replace him.
