I do not believe the situation in the Iraq parliament is really as bad as many (mostly journalists) proclaim. The ball is rolling and it has gained sufficient momentum and will not stop...there has been too much invested by too many countries.

I noted something interesting in an article yesterday. Our liberal news media would have us believe that the parliament is paralyzed, but the Iraqi news reports the following via articles:

“None of the Iraqiya ministers attended, and the cabinet decided to consider them ‘on leave’ and to appoint acting ministers until they join in again,” Alaq said.

Looks to me like Maliki's cabinet can steamroll over any objection from any party, like it or not. My only concern is that if some the opposition parties are marginalized, they may feel their only recourse is sectarian violence, which would not be good for our RV prospects.

My hope remains that economic progress and the resultant trickle-down effect to the Iraqis that need it most demonstrates a method to Maliki's madness, subsequently calming things down via a demonstration of prosperity.

Time will tell...

That's what happens when you slap a country together based upon political priorities rather than ethnic reality. Unless and until they agree to put aside the ethnic/religious differences and work together for the betterment of all we will face an inherently unstable situation.

Landcare, show me where in their constitution that the PM (who actually doenst have a fully formed govt and should be booted out by now) can just appoint people over those positions? He is basically putting more of HIS people in power and gettin rid of the opposition. Sound familiar? He has targeted them all and will continue til he gets his way. JMHO
