Personally, I like to see "All Info" and I, will decide what I believe to be valuable or, not.

Keep in mind this forum is titled "Scuttlebutt From Elsewhere" I will not get into the origin of the term (it goes back to the days of sail) but today it would be "Gossip Around the Coffee Pot." In other words, we're just posting what others are saying, not vouching for it's accuracy or validity. It's here for your info, to assist in building a picture of what seems to be going on. It's up to you to accept or reject the info.

Info is info ... nothing more or less. Some is good, some is bad, we present it, and you decide what you want to listen to, or not. Personally some of these posts have led to some pretty amusing conversations.

I think the term "Scuttlebutt" is proper to use in the case of Rumors because it means it is "here say" (Joe told Mary, who told, Mike, who told Wilma, who told Jack... and finally You and I got told). Is there any truth in such statements? I believe if there is truth in these statements it is coincidence not intention. How much truth can be contained in a message that has been around the circle 18 times by the time you hear about it? That fact is questionable.
Its a case of the childs game where someone whispers a secret into the ear of the person next to them and around it goes until it gets back to you, and you compare what you are hearing to what you said... 99% of the time its a different story, not because someone lied, or intended to lie... just how people see things and hear things and interpret information.

So it would be correct for it to apply to everything that is brought in here from everyone (gurus included)!

You are correct Hummingbyrd ... the cask the water was stored in was called a butt and once opened it became a scuttled butt ... the crew would gather around it and use a dipper to refresh themselves ... I felt the coffee pot in the modern office would be most analogous.
