In regards to the last paragraph, China has been amassing large amounts of gold to their inventory and given the opportunity, could end up with the majority of holdings. With this in mind, China could force a gold standard for the rest of the world, specifically the U.S. and other countries who have moved away from the standard.
The so-called recession that China is going through , as is the rest of the world, is a ruse. While everyones attention is preoccupied and focused on Iraq, the European meltdown and a world financial catastrophe, China has been busy positioning itself methodically as they wait for the right time for checkmate. The litmus test surrounding the push for the Honk Kong Dollar is only the beginning ...

Hmm ... just read somewhere that India had the most gold in the world ... now reserves may be a different story.
