Fox News Viewers Know Less Than People Who
Don't Watch Any News: Study

Fox News viewers are less informed than
people who don't watch any news, according to a
new poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The poll surveyed New
Jersey residents about the uprisings in Egypt
and the Middle East, and where they get their
news sources. The study, which controlled for demographic factors like
education and partisanship, found that "people who watch Fox News are
18-points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government"
and "6-points less likely to know that Syrians have not yet overthrown
their government" compared to those who watch no news.

Overall, 53% of all respondents knew that
Egyptians successfully overthrew Hosni Mubarak and 48% knew that Syrians have
yet to overthrow their government.

Dan Cassino, a political science professor
at Fairleigh Dickinson, explained in a statement, "Because of the controls
for partisanship, we know these results are not just driven by Republicans or
other groups being more likely to watch Fox News. Rather, the results show us
that there is something about watching Fox News that leads people to do worse
on these questions than those who don’t watch any news at all."

This
isn't the first study that has found that Fox News viewers more misinformed in comparison to others. Last year, a study from the University of Maryland found that Fox
News viewers were more likely to believe false information about politics.

I would not be suprised if this study was done on CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, ect... and it can out the same as it did for FOX.

If one takes all news from one place, they are shortchanging themselves. This coming from a person whose mother worked for the only newspaper in town for over 30 years. Expand yourself, you will be wiser and happier.

Not really a very scientific poll ... The good professor seems to leap to some pretty opinionated conclusions:

The university is located in New Jersey. I think it was just a poll taken by Fairleigh Dickinson. The study itself was done by the University of Maryland.

btw...Christine O'Donnell went to Fairleigh Dickinson University LOL!

They also have campus' in Canada, and the UK, with a list of noteable's who went there. Been around since the mid fourties

Fox News definately knows how to MARKET the news. WOW! those Fox news ladies are gorgiouse!. I can see where I might be missing something they are saying when I'm mesmerized by their beauty!...What did she say?.....I don't know ,but I love the way she says it!.....LOL

1. Rarely is torture effective in elliciting intelligence
Uses of torture:
1. Forced confessions to justify an ends
2. Psychological experimentation
3. Intimidation
4. Terror
Alternatives to torture: many. (voice stress analysis, polygraph, mri questioning, body language interpretation...)

Daily is pretty much the only tv news I watch, and colbert for commentary, keeps me abreast of what's going on... At least it's intelligent.

Congresswoman Bachmann went on Jimmy Fallon's late night talk show recently. The band played a song called "Lyin A*s B*t*h" as she was being welcomed onto the show. Glenn Beck called on Fallon to fire the band over such disrespect.

I think that this was utter disrespect shown to Bachmann, who was a guest on the show. I think at least apologies are in order.

The funny thing, is what is mentioned at the end of this video. That factually (empirically) speaking, Bachmann's statements are more untrue than true. (http://www.politifact.com/personalities/michele-bachmann/) Making part of this song, applicable. LOL!

The thing with torture, its fundamental flaw, is the subject is driven to say what will end the abuse. Think of the POW's in the Vietnam era who were recorded admitting to war crimes they did not commit. This is one of the fundamental uses of torture.

Even in Iraq, there were three letter agency warehouse prisons. outspoken individuals were snatched out out of there sleep and homes, a bag put over their head and dissapeared. This was a terror technique to let others know what would happen if they did the same. They might have been water boarded, electroshocked, put in positions that were designed to cause chronic cramping (ouch that charlie horse), disfigured or tossed in a cooler. When they were released, it was with the intent that they would share their experience. Terror by night.

When you get real personal with what torture is all about, it changes things. Torture is not some academic discussion, it is something that damages the spirit and darkens the soul, of the technician and subject alike. Just think about these things before being quick to condone such things. As previously stated, there are viable alternatives. The thought process changes physiology and the actual physical structure of the brain. The technology available now can measure and observe this making torture obsolete. Further, if the goal is actually to save lives, you need the best info possible.

Again depending on whose opinion you liseten to. You believe that other means work just as well, from what you have heard and read. I have heard and read that what they did to get info out of the terrorists caught over the last 7 or so years has worked and worked well. I have heard it has saved 1000's of lives, by stopping many terrorist plots. What if they had used the methods you descrived below and that didn't get the info they needed, and more Amercianx would have died?? Not a good result in my book. I'm not going to try to sound over educated on this topic, because to me it either worked and saved lives or it didn't and more Americans would have lost their lives. Seemes to me it has worked great thus far.

Bottom line you have people trying to kill Americans because of their idiology, so do "whatever" it takes to stop them from doing so.

I am always cautious about what "they" say. On another level, the fear of torture makes the techniques I mentioned more effective, it puts the subject in a state of duress, out of their element. Some of the techniques I listed are regularly used, with or without torture. What a wicked web we weave...

Consumer habits make the difference as with the rBGH issue. Even so, Monsanto did all they could to prevent the labeling of non-rBGH milk. If viewers moved from FNC, FNC would most likely change like a chamaeleon until it could slowly mind people back toward corporate interests. The remedy most surely lies within the individual.

So useing your reasoning, CBS should also be out of business, due to Dan Rather and his producer lying about GW Bush and his military record? Or only Ranther and the producer which is what happened?
