Abadi: Trump recognizes the importance of the role of Iraq
March 20, 2017
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al - Abadi
"The current US administration wants to be more involved in the fight against terrorism" than the previous administration, in an address to the United States Institute of Peace, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said.
He pointed out that increasing involvement in the fight against terrorism does not mean an increase in American forces operating in Iraq, because the American public opinion and "elsewhere" do not wish to.
"This administration and this president are aware of the importance of Iraq and the role it plays in the region," he said. "We have been assured that US support for Iraq will accelerate" for Iraq to achieve stability.
Call for "no deviation"
After confirming that Iraq is succeeding in liberating its land and proves that it can be eliminated, he pointed out that there is a problem that "some countries consider terrorism to be terrorism when it is against it while it sees it from a different perspective when it is not against it."
He called on everyone "not to deviate from a confrontational confrontation and not to be preoccupied with other things."
He called on the regional countries not to use terrorist organizations to gain gains in their conflicts, considering that it is this use that led to the emergence of an advocate.
Challenge democracy
The Iraqi prime minister said that building a better Iraq can only be done by listening to the views of opponents.
He said that the Iraqi government should be responsible for all people "regardless of their beliefs" and demonstrate that in dealing with citizens.
"We are not saying that we succeeded but we have laid out broad guidelines," he said.
"It would be a sad day if the people think that dictatorship is better than democracy," he said.
He pointed out that in the absence of protection and in the case of non-fight against corruption, "we have failed."
Plan for the conductor
As for Iraq's plan for Mosul after its liberation, Abadi said, "We must win people to our ranks."
"We need more funding to stabilize and prosper in Mosul, and if we prove to people that their situation after the liberation of their areas will be better than stability and economic conditions, we have succeeded," he said.
He criticized some Iraqi politicians who refuse to be separated between political action and armed action, stressing that "when you are political and bear arms, it means that you will use weapons in politics."
As for dealing with the popular crowd after the liberation of the entire Iraqi territory, Daqash said that they should not be told "thank you and return to your homes" simply so that they do not think that the country can not sacrifice them.
He said that those who are willing to join the Popular Army will join the Iraqi forces and disarm those who do not want to join the army.
