Expected Dayton retention basin failure leads to Flash Flood Warning

DAYTON, Nev. (KOLO) - Lyon County Sheriff's Office is advising residents in the area of Dayton Valley Road in an area commonly known as the Ranchos (Pottassi Road, Nugget Road, Rancho Road, Comstock, Sutro) that the retention basin south of Dayton Valley Road has 2-3 feet left before water flows over the top.
Lyon County is working to notify residents in the area of pending flooding, and a flash flood warning is in effect for the area into Tuesday evening.
Crews are assessing opportunities to move water to more open areas. Residents are urged to secure flood mitigation efforts and to pay close attention to water flows.
Lyon County's manager says, "There has been NO dam failure. A storm water retention basin located south west of Dayton Valley Road is full and over flowing into drainages. Currently there are no homes or property threatened. There is potential that could change in the next few hours."
