Thoughts from Baghdad Invest

Just 3 weeks into the war you probably saw the moment Saddam’s statue was pulled to the ground and the moments after followed with would appear to have been scenes of excitement with men jumping up and down on Saddam’s body/head. Fast forward 10 years and that will not happen today.
I urge you to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDu7bXqx8Ig “The media conveyed a reassuring message but a false one.”
I wouldn’t comment to say that the scenes were fake because most Iraqi’s I know were genuinely excited for the fresh start.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing
Oh and what the hell is democracy!?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I personally do not want to see Iraq divided as do most of my friends. Some see it as the only option but I hope that will never be the case because Iraq is Iraq and even Kurdistan is considered Iraq in most Iraqi’s eyes and frankly the fact you would even consider that an option as part of the equation tells me you admit defeat on America’s part. The reason I say, admit defeat is because before 2003, Iraqi’s coexisted just fine and dividing Iraq was not an option although before the war I had heard years back that one day I would see that happen.
Iraq was more stable than what it was today… but ask yourself this, if you were a terrorist would you attack when it is harder security wise eg American tanks and missiles or would you wait for the announced withdrawal and then attack once they have gone home?
Right now, America looks stupid. Yes, nobody wants to be known as a failure (pride and all that) but that is how it looks.
The media has already played that card, should we go back and act as a policeman?! NO!! That is not what Iraq wants. America created this situation by taking the decision to go and attack Iraq in the first place, this is not a story that needs to be read in quarters or half’s, this is a story that needs to be read in its entirety for every action has a reaction and the reaction occurring today is cause of the actions taken in the years before.
Iraq was shattered when you left so don’t give me “Iraq was more stable” That is trash talk and a way of washing your hands of it except you have blood embroiled on the palms of your hands that have not yet been rinsed. In other words, America made a mistake and it is now pretty much accepted by mainstream media that it was a mistake.
As for Al-Qaeda, those fools came in immediately after America attacked! The borders were opened and free movement occurred in and out of Iraq. Now, 2013/14 we have the Americans arming the rebels (aka Al-Qaeda) in Syria in an attempt to overthrow the Assad regime in Syria but those idiots are bringing the weapons over the border into Iraq!! Part of the reason there has been a cutback in support for the rebels because on one hand your fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq but next door your arming them to take out Assad.
I am ashamed to speak with someone who washes their hands so easily of a situation that could have been avoided in the name of – it is easier to ignore it than face it!
Oh and what the hell is democracy!?
Democracy means THE PEOPLE have political power and vote in representatives to work for THE PEOPLES best interest. Majority rules. Not one person or a select few. Every man and woman has a voice. They do not fear their government officials. If they do not like what that representive is doing he can be voted out of office. THE PEOPLE do have to speak up for what they believe in or no change can come about.
As for as you saying that Amercia left to soon, There was a schedueled timeline for us to leave. After that timeline ended, our troops were not going to be given immunity if they stayed in Iraq. Since Iraq is a democracy now, THE PEOPLE should have stood up and made their voice be heard if they wanted us to stay, because the government did not. They knew we would leave if not given immunity.
Democracy means all people should be respected and treated fairly. I would not want to live anywhere that didn't have it. I can imagine that it would be tough to have lived under Dictatorship and will take time for THE PEOPLE to learn that that have a voice and not be afraid to speak up for any injustices or anything to help benefit THE PEOPLE. Those that do understand it should help teach those that don't. I wish all good things to everyone in all countries, as do the majority of Americans. Peace to all.
Very nicely put BlueSky. Thanks for your response to this thread. We may have our issues, but I love living in America.
