Kansas Waiter Brian Maixner Has New Smile Thanks To Generous Customer
By Khier Casino, Sat, March 7, 2015
A Kansas waiter has a new smile thanks to a generous stranger who offered to pay for his dental work.
Brian Maixner works at Doo-Dah Diner in Wichita, Kansas, where he is well known for his friendly and cheerful character.
Maixner has been plagued with dental issues since childhood, missing several teeth and suffering from painful infections, according to People.com. He could not afford the dental insurance he needed.
Fred Boettcher, an attorney from Oklahoma, sat in Maixner’s section back in January and noticed the waiter had some dental issues.
"When I hired Brian I wondered what I would do if a customer was to address the issue of his dental problems and how they were uncomfortable with it,” owner Timirie Shibley said. “I wasn't quite sure how I was going to answer that, so when Fred came up to me, that's where I thought this was going.”
Boettcher, who had suffered from dental issues of his own as a child, approached Shibley and offered to pay for Maixner’s dental makeover. The attorney said he has been very blessed in life, and that paying for expensive dental work is something he liked doing for others.
Earlier this month, Maixner had his remaining bad teeth pulled by Boettcher’s dentist, Phillip Tyndall in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and was fitted with new dentures, The Wichita Eagle reports. The dentist will replace the dentures with dental implants once the bone heals in about six to eight months.
"My friends on Facebook went through the roof," Maixner, who says he can't stop grinning when he went back to work on Wednesday, tells PEOPLE about his transformation. "I've been getting a lot of people stopping me in public."
His story has since gone viral and he has received support from people on the Internet. Maixner and Shibley hope Boettcher’s act of kindness will encourage others to do good deeds.
