MY DOG'S SECRET

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.
He/she has his food prepared for him.
He can eat whenever he wants.
His meals are provided at no cost to him.
He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup, and again
during the year if any medical needs arise.
For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.
He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much
larger
than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.
If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.
He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.
He receives these accommodations absolutely free.
He is living like a King, and has absolutely no expenses
whatsoever.
All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn
a living every day.
I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me
like a brick in the head.......
I think my dog is a member of Congress!

Oh Abby Ann -- poor baby -- Maybe if you ask him really really nice to take you ??? Or Maybe more training is required?? lol ---
My Queen Ginger had me trained within hours -- heck I mean MINUTES lol

ABBY ANN you are one smart cookie we speak the same language --
I did kinda sorta rescue Queen Ginger from an outside caged existence that was terrible but she rescued me from at least equal or worse torture -- unloved - lonely and unaware of it
I could write a book about the impact these four legged furry loving spirits have had on my life and I do hope to do that one day I have had 3 live past 20 yrs and the last one 17 and would have made it longer had he not been kicked by an intruder to my house - 
I have cremated the last three and have their remains in beautiful containers with papers and rights of passage They still keep me company -
Our creator had done so many wonderful things for us but the gift of these little furry four legged friends is at the top of my list --

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exhuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel, I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy, and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card, I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck ... she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek, and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could, to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

That's how it always happens with me, fang2. I've only ever had 1 "planned" puppy. All my dogs and cats have always found me just when I needed them most.

Somehow, fang2, we need to start making people realize they don't need to get a puppy or a kitten. There are so many wonderful older pets who may be already house trained and filled with love just waiting to share with a new forever family. :flower:

Thanks to both of you, Uneek and Seb, loved both posts, am planning on a dog again, however, a feral cat made my aqaintance, and is now looking healthier and follows me around the yard and jumps at my leg if he needs a little more attention. They do find us when we need them...

That's so sweet, pgo. Not nearly as many people will open up to a feral cat as would take in a stray dog. So bless you for considering giving this kitty a home.
