The Taliban government bans dealing in foreign currencies in Afghanistan

Baghdad / NINA / - The Taliban government decided today, Tuesday, to ban dealing in foreign currencies in Afghanistan and to take legal measures against those who violate that decision, considering that this is in the interest of the national economy.

"The Islamic Emirate has announced a complete ban on the use of foreign currencies in the country," according to a Taliban statement posted by its spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, on Twitter. "The economic situation and national interests in the country require that all Afghans use the Afghan currency in every transaction."

The statement added: "All citizens, shop owners, merchants, businessmen and the general public must conduct all transactions in the local currency from now on and strictly refrain from using foreign currencies, because the use of foreign currencies has a negative impact on the country's economy."
