Baghdad / NINA / - The United Nations Development Program in Iraq signed today in Sulaymaniyah a memorandum of understanding with Asiacell over a period of two years to enhance youth employment opportunities and support micro, small and medium enterprises in Iraq.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) stated in a statement: "Through this memorandum, the two parties are committed to working together on several initiatives, specialized in supporting young entrepreneurs and emerging companies to develop innovative solutions to ongoing local challenges, in addition to accelerator laboratories programs affiliated with the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, as well as an initiative to support an electronic platform designed to connect entrepreneurs with available investors, and also work to promote long-term and sustainable job opportunities for youth. The efforts led by Iraqi youth to address the emerging corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic will also be covered. .

Zina Ali Ahmed, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, said: “Through their passion, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, Iraqi youth today are agents of change and have the ability to build a resilient and inclusive Iraq for all - especially after Iraq has gone through multiple crises, including That is the war against ISIS, the economic difficulties caused by low oil prices, and the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.”

She added, "Today, we are proud to partner with Asiacell to nurture young talent. We are also working to secure the future of Iraqi youth by providing the necessary training and long-term support in the areas of employment."

For his part, Amer Al-Sanaa, Managing Director and CEO of Asiacell Communications Company, said: "The partnership with the United Nations Development Program is a valuable addition to our ongoing programs, and its positive effects will clearly bear in support of Iraqi youth."

He added, "We are fully confident that the new set of initiatives that we are working on now will have innumerable positive effects on the Iraqi economy."/ End 8
